In the last couple of months I have realized my dream. It is not that I don't think that you can really make it as a fashion designer here in America, but in Europe they really support the small designers at the grassroots level. I have had this dream for a really long time but now I finally feel that it may happen. With only one year to go before I graduate I can finally start to see the edges of the clouds starting to part and the vision of myself in that place beginning to materialize. It hasn't been any kind of social or economic developments, but just a growing confidence from all of my work in design classes. In these classes I have been doing my own style of projects that are meant to be open ended to allow students to develop whatever types of items it is they wish to market later. I have actually designed a whole line for myself that I have started creating when I have time. For a class I actually learned how to do a marketing plan as well and have a rough draft of what kind of advertising and marketing scheme I want to put in place for myself. I really started this whole dream out one day when I was looking online for apartments in town here and I just decided to explore some other places just for fun. I came upon Italy as I was looking at places where fashion is a major part of life. I became more and more excited about the search as I looked at Venice apartments and Rome apartments. The first glimpses of myself in that area of the world came to mind while seeing the pictures of Lucca apartments and Florence apartments. After looking and actually coming up with real places I would like to live I thought to myself, why not? I mean no matter what when I graduate next year I will have to move away and go somewhere and no matter where it is it's going to be a home for at least a year or so. That's how I cam to the conclusion that there is no where else I would like to study the real world of fashion design and marketing than in Italy. I am especially interested in the beautiful dress designs that come from that area of the world these days. My thoughts now are not about if I will move to Italy or not. Now I am just thinking that maybe when I am done getting the experience or the break I want in Italy, then maybe I'll move to NEw York next.
