flights

I am planning a trip to New York in June for my sister in law's wedding. I have yet to decide with the price of gas whether flying or driving will be the more sensible way to travel. I have been online trying to research cheap airfares and discount flights, but I don't think that the prices seem very good. I checked out one airline that claimed that they had a special running, but then I found other airlines that were offering better deals. I know there are some of those websites that offer to compare discount airfares for you, but I just don't think that I can trust them, and since I am traveling with a purpose, not just for pleasure, I know my in-laws will never let me live it down if it gets screwed up and we miss the wedding.

I usually fly Southwest Airlines, but lately there has been a lot of bad press about them, and quite honestly my husband says he doesn't want to ever fly again since the 9/11 thing. That doesn't really scare me because I am one of those people who think that when it is your time to go, you go. Doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing. So I know that it would be his preference to drive, but I also know that he is a cheapskate, I am sorry did I say that I meant extremely frugal. Anyway, it seems that the more I am researching these flights; I am finding more cheap international flights than I am finding cheap airfares for domestic travel. How can that be? Shouldn't it be more difficult to find cheap international flights than domestic ones? Maybe most people don't want to travel internationally, I don't know.

Anyway, I think that with the cost of gas, the round trip airfares will cost us about the same since we drive a real gas guzzler. If that is the case, then I think it will probably be a better choice to fly for 2 hours instead of driving for 12, especially since I would like to arrive relaxed. Once I get around my in laws it will definitely be stressful and I would like to at least arrive rested instead of cramped up and exhausted from the road trip. I am sure that the wedding will be fun and I wish my sister in law much happiness, but the whole family all together can be quite overwhelming.

My senior year has finally arrived. I am only two semesters away from becoming a full fledged teacher. I just can't believe that I am going to be a teacher. I feel like I have enough content knowledge and I am a pretty mature person, but it's just an iconic type of title in my mind. All the teachers I had either made me feel like I never wanted to in school ever again, or they made me feel like wanted to stay in school forever. The latter is where I got my inspiration to become a teacher. It was these kinds of teachers that I think of every day when I imagine what teaching my classes will be like. This semester I will get to see how real those visions really are, or at least how easy it is in reality. In the first half of my senior year I will be completing my internship at Bow Elementary School in Detroit, MI. Here I will be assigned a class and two days each week I will be in charge of teaching these kids for two hours each day. I have already met the teachers and taken walk through the school to see which one I wanted to apply for. I knew from seeing this one and the students there, that this was just the kind of place I wanted to teach in. I still have about two months until the experience begins, but I am really now starting to get ready. They have already given me my lesson assignments and I have started writing up the lesson plans for my first month. I will be there for a total of five months and I really want to have all of my lessons planned out before I ever walk in to a classroom so I can focus on learning the skills required to teach. With my lesson plans, I will carry with me my education psychology notes just in case. It is the skills that I have taken from this class that will be the real key to my success.

college education

I have been considering returning to school and have been looking into the best careers. One of the best careers is an attorney, but I am feeling that quite honestly is going to require more education than I can handle. I do want to get a college education, but I don't want to get bogged down going to classes all the time. I am currently working full time, but it is a dead end job and I know this. I really am at a time in my life where I am seeing people that I consider to be less intelligent than myself making a lot more money for themselves just because they have a college degree. I don't agree with this philosophy, but it is the way our society works and common sense and hard work don't bring in the kind of money that a silly piece of paper does.

I have checked with a local university and they said that I should be eligible for student loans if I can't get any college scholarships. I really am hoping that I can get a few scholarships even if they are small, it will reduce the amount of money I will have to pay back in the end. I read a few student loan articles and all of them suggested to take out as few student loans as possible. They said that a lot of people just take student loans like they are free money when they are in school and then when they get out, they can't believe how much their monthly payments are. These articles said that many students take out loans to pay for housing, food and even for a new car. They said that over doing it in this way is a big mistake that these students are paying for in a big way, if they get out of school and can't immediately get the high paying job they were counting on.

I have also been considering taking some online education classes to help me better manage working and going to school at the same time. I think it would be good to squeeze in my classes where they fit into my life, and not be tied to an exact class schedule that might get messed up by my work schedule.

I any case, I am really looking forward to this return to school and the brighter future that awaits me at the end.

IP phones

Anyone who has worked at a small business (or a large corporation) knows know difficult it can be to procure the perfect telephone service for the office. Often, a manager or business will spend way too much money with a regular phone service. And have you ever tried intraoffice contact using phone lines? It can be difficult to get things done because often lines are being used on outgoing calls. Suppose you, as the boss, have to talk to an employee about something important, and you are unable to leave your desk to find them in person, and you attempt to call them using the telephone system. Little do you know they are either on the phone with another client or away from their desk.

VoIP is here to change that. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, allows you to make phone calls over an Internet connection versus over a traditional phone line. What are the advantages of such a service? VoIP technology allows you to save money on calling costs. It also eliminates aggravating phone wiring, which can clutter workspace and looks tacky. You can use this service either through a compatible computer or an IP telephones.

If you're worried about being able to use all the familiar functions of a phone such as voice mail and call waiting, worry no more. Call waiting is available for this service. In addition, you can receive voice mail as an email.

VoIP is also ideal for businesses as it can greatly decrease the wiring and complication of intraoffice and outside communication. Each employee can have their own line, and it is possible to see who is on the phone and when. And if you are concerned about you or your employees becoming competent with their ip phones, you can purchase Microsoft Response Point. It allows you to work with VoIP without spending hundreds of dollars on training and gaining expertise. It also allows you to work not only with the phone service but with email as well, streamlining your business operations.

Let's go back to our example of not being able to find the employee. Imagine the ease and convenience of being able to pull up a screen showing you the computers currently being used on the network. Now, you can see whether the employee is on the line and lo and behold, they are currently in the middle of a call and thus were unable to receive your call. With this information, you can now decide how best to approach the situation. Perhaps you can call another employee who is not busy at the moment, or, if the need is not so pressing, you can wait for them to be done. How easy is that?

Such new technology is incredible and well worth the investment. See if VoIP doesn't make a difference in your business!

Le Marche villas

Posted by Stacy on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 7:54 PM

I was tired, my 5 euro panini was soggy, and someone just pick pocketed my cell phone. Frankly, Rome was not all it was hyped to be as I stood on the Ponte Sant'Angelo last summer. I vaguely looked at the rows of fake handbags on sale on the sidewalk in front of me and walked dejectedly back to the hostel. My initial expectations of Italy were shattered, but my experience hardly constituted an accurate description of Italy as a whole, let alone Europe. One of my coworkers started talking about his dream of packing his bags and buying one of the many Italian villas that are for sale along the Mediterranean coasts of Italy. Umbria villas, Le Marche villas, Cinque Terre apartments - all of them are located in beautiful, quaint towns with wonderful views. He was describing homes he saw in catalogues of newly built, large homes with sandstone architecture and safe neighborhoods. More and more foreigners were moving out there. He told me of a Georgia retired couple spending the rest of their lives among Le Marche villas and loving it, even while taking Italian lessons. At first I was a bit skeptical of moving out there since it was a whole new environment. I mean, it might be good to visit once in a while, or even stay there a couple months for an extended summer, but to live there? Plus, I wasn't too crazy about Rome given my experiences. Still, he said that as he did his research, Italian villas seemed to live up to the hype. Of course, you'll need a certain amount of money to live or rent one of the Umbria villas, for example, but it may be well worth it to enjoy your retirement or free time in a new environment. Just the new culture itself will be an ample source of interest and relaxation, without the need for fancy entertainment complexes or swimming pools. Of course, many of these villas do have swimming pools. I started to think that maybe in the future, relaxing in one of the Cinque Terre apartments wouldn't be too bad. Plus, Cinque Terre is not close to Rome!

payday advance

Posted by Stacy on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 9:36 PM

One thing I have learned in college is that when you are playing around with money, you can either view what you got as a juggling act or a ball around your neck. See, I have been on my own since I was a very young child so I have no fear of being left out in the rain without money. I am a little more willing because of this loan business to play the game rather than just to say the hell with all of it. I know some kids that freak out every time they get a loan interest bill or an electric bill. It doesn't matter to them if everything is going to be fine. They just see the money sign and the word bill and they start sweating and snarling. I don;t think that gets you anywhere because I know it's all gonna end some day and why should I have to worry about money which comes and goes when it wants to. That's not to say that I don't keep up on the bills and do my work because I do it harder than anybody I know. I on the other hand am not driven by fear and worry, but by an honest desire to live my life and experience everything there is. When I get in to dire straights in terms of finances I go out and fall in to my safety net. I don't worry about taking out a payday loan or getting a cash advance. I mean people view taking a hand out when you need it as something that knocks you down a notch. I think if you really need something and it's available, then take it. My buddies asked me that a month ago when I was short on the rent and took out a payday advance. They were all kind of shocked that I didn't have some other way of working it out. I just said look man, I have two days till I will have the money due today, I don''t mind taking the hand out for a tough situation. I think that it's all about your prior experiences and mine have conditioned me in a way to just realize that everything works out and it doesn't ever help you to freak out about something as intangible as money. I mean you can't eat food, and you can't honestly feel good about stealing it because it gets you things, so why do you worry about it so very much. I guess that's just something they will have to work out within themselves someday.

Bill consolidators

Posted by Stacy on Sunday, April 13, 2008 7:43 PM

My mom called me today and was confiding in me about the amount of debt they have accumulated since dad lost his job last year. He was working for a large corporation, and had a very nice salary and benefits package. He had been with the company since I was a kid. As he began to near retirement, they forced him out, as is happening in so many companies these days. In any case, they had really counted on him working for at least 6 more years. Now, they are beginning to fall behind on their bills and have to make some big lifestyle changes and Dad is becoming really depressed. Mom says that he feels as if he has failed her, and now she has to return to work (something she has not done in 20 years). At 52 that is a tough transition to make. She is handling it okay; however, my father is not.

She says she has began dealing with debt consolidators to lower some of their monthly payments. Dad doesn't even know about the bill consolidation, as she feels it is best not to make him aware that this is where they are at right now. She is afraid that he will get so depressed that he might even commit suicide. My father has always seemed like the rock of the family, so hearing all this about debt consolidation and suicide thing just really has me rattled. I guess when we are little, our parents are the all knowing, take care of everything people. This is by far my first dose of seeing my parents as actual fallible human beings and quite honestly, it is a little frightening. I guess I kind of liked it better when they knew everything and were protecting me from the world. Now in their time of crisis I am not really sure what I can do to help.

I am seriously considering taking the fall semester off from school to help them. After all, I can work and help take care of the house and stuff. Also, Dad and I have always been tight, and maybe I can help raise his spirits a little. I know if I suggest it to them, they will say absolutely not, but I really feel that I need to help take care of them, the way they have always taken care of me.

Florence apartments

In the last couple of months I have realized my dream. It is not that I don't think that you can really make it as a fashion designer here in America, but in Europe they really support the small designers at the grassroots level. I have had this dream for a really long time but now I finally feel that it may happen. With only one year to go before I graduate I can finally start to see the edges of the clouds starting to part and the vision of myself in that place beginning to materialize. It hasn't been any kind of social or economic developments, but just a growing confidence from all of my work in design classes. In these classes I have been doing my own style of projects that are meant to be open ended to allow students to develop whatever types of items it is they wish to market later. I have actually designed a whole line for myself that I have started creating when I have time. For a class I actually learned how to do a marketing plan as well and have a rough draft of what kind of advertising and marketing scheme I want to put in place for myself. I really started this whole dream out one day when I was looking online for apartments in town here and I just decided to explore some other places just for fun. I came upon Italy as I was looking at places where fashion is a major part of life. I became more and more excited about the search as I looked at Venice apartments and Rome apartments. The first glimpses of myself in that area of the world came to mind while seeing the pictures of Lucca apartments and Florence apartments. After looking and actually coming up with real places I would like to live I thought to myself, why not? I mean no matter what when I graduate next year I will have to move away and go somewhere and no matter where it is it's going to be a home for at least a year or so. That's how I cam to the conclusion that there is no where else I would like to study the real world of fashion design and marketing than in Italy. I am especially interested in the beautiful dress designs that come from that area of the world these days. My thoughts now are not about if I will move to Italy or not. Now I am just thinking that maybe when I am done getting the experience or the break I want in Italy, then maybe I'll move to NEw York next.

Obama

Posted by Stacy on Thursday, April 10, 2008 9:08 PM

The race for the democratic presidential candidate is still a hot topic. The idea that we have a woman (Clinton) and a black man (Obama) running against each other is in itself amazing. If you think about the timing, however, it makes perfect sense. President Bush has really done a number on the reputation of the republicans, and therefore, this presidency has a phenomenal chance of going to the democrats. The 2 choices they have put up for nomination are both minorities, yet, which ever one of them wins the democratic nomination will most likely become president. So, it really does make sense to put them up against each other.

I don't think either is a bad candidate, but both have issues and since most likely one will be the next president, I do think that we need to consider each one carefully.

I personally think that Hilary Clinton is a manipulator. I think both her and her husband are arrogant phonies. I do think that she would probably make a better president than her husband did, but in my mind that doesn't really say too much. I worry about how much say Bill will have in Hilary's decisions, but yet I don't think that she's the type of woman who is going to listen to her husband. As a matter of fact, she probably helped him in his presidency. In any case, I really objected to some of the comments that she was throwing out about Barack Obama. I also felt as if the two of them were trying to bombard him by working together on her behalf. I think that Bill is better suited in the background, as I don't think that he has much to contribute.

Obama on the other hand, seems to be a more straight forward candidate. He is well spoken and seems to know what he wants to accomplish. The only real blemish I can see is the whole Muslim / Islam thing. I don't think that it makes him a terrorist or anything, but I do know that people in this country can be really closed minded at times, and that combined with the fact that he is a black man, may just be enough to do in his chances. I guess only time will tell. I am willing to bet that one of these 2 candidates will become the next president of the United States in November. But which one is anybody's guess.

VoIP phone

Posted by Stacy on Wednesday, April 09, 2008 5:48 PM

These days it seems that I am always hearing about VoIP phone and VoIP telephone services. I hear these terms and yet I don't have any clue what it means. I have looked it up and now would like to explain it to all who are as confused about this new technology as I am.

VoIP stands for voice over IP. Basically, all this really means is that you can talk on the phone over the internet instead of the traditional landline phones that are used. The reasons for using this new form of technology are simple.

The first most important reason, at least in my mind is the cost. It costs very little to have a VoIP phone, and there are no extra charges or long distance charges like those associated with landline phone companies. There is just a flat monthly fee, and a reasonable one at that. It costs about $25 per month for this phone service.

The second reason is convenience. This system uses your regular broadband connection, which quite frankly most people have today. If you have a good reliable broadband service, then you should have no problem using this service.

The third reason is reliability. I know most people are afraid the change will cause them to lose connection, but this type of service has been proven to be solid and reliable. This service is just as reliable as any landline that is currently in use today.

Lastly, the installation is quite simple. All you do is take a device that plugs into your computer and then plug your phone into the other side, and after programming a few things into your computer, using asterisk. You are ready to start talking, and without worry. No more having to guess what your monthly bill will be, you can rest assured that this new service is all that they say it is and more.

This VoIP technology can really give us freedom that is unmatched with our current local and long distance providers. We will no longer have to suffer with outrageous bills and unwarranted charges. Now we can fight back and say that we will only pay what is reasonable for a service.

These days it seems that the cost of everything is going up, up, up, so isn't it nice to know that the cost of phone service is now going down, down, down? I think it's great!

homework help

Posted by Stacy on Monday, April 07, 2008 2:51 PM

Okay, so it has just been one of those days. I have some killer homework to get done tonight, and I finally get done with my last class of the day, head home to get started on my endless night of work. I get home and when I unlock the door to my apartment and step in I hear a noise, it sounds like water running, but how can that be, I live alone. I follow the sound to the bathroom at which time I find water leaking out all over the bathroom floor from that little hosey thing that goes up under the toilet bowl. I find a little valve and turn it, and the water stops running out. Well, I am on the 3rd floor of the building, and I call the landlord to inform him of the problem I can home to. He assured me that he would contact some water damage repair specialists and try to get someone over there right away.

Well, needless to say, I pulled a beer out of the fridge and popped the top, falling onto the couch for a few breaths, before I get started on my work. Well, I sit there staring at the book for what had to be an hour. I just couldn't get what the heck this guy was talking about and I had to get this work done, so finally I gave in and called this hot girl for some homework help. Of course, it was one of those days, so she was out with her boyfriend. I jumped online and finally figured it out. As the time was now nearing 8 o'clock, I called my landlord and he told me that he wouldn't be able to get someone out until tomorrow to fix my problem. I then proceeded to sop up the water mess with some towels and threw them one by one into the tub. After, I got the mess cleaned up, what else, I had to use the bathroom. Needless to say, mine was in desperate need of repair, so I had to go knocking on the guy next door's door to beg upon him to use the toilet, how humiliating. Well, the good thing was he offered me a beer and we started talking, about the first time I had really had a conversation with the guy and we found out that we were both racing fanatics. We agreed to get together and watch the races sometime. Anyway, after about an hour, I got home and got my work done.

My day, which started out like a train wreck, ended with a new friend.

Murder mystery

Posted by Stacy on Friday, April 04, 2008 10:05 AM

I went to California recently to visit a friend of mine at school. I just went for a week, but when I got there I was thrilled. My friend had gotten me tickets to one of those murder mystery dinners. I had always wanted to go, ever since I had learned about them. Well, this friend had known about my interest in them, and had decided to arrange the whole thing as a surprise for my visit.

The murder mystery party that we attended was in Los Angeles. I had never been to LA before, however, it was an amazing city. Being from Arkansas, I had never been to such an awesome place, or quite frankly a real city before. Everyone was really friendly and best yet it was warm. Well, I arrived at LAX about noon and was informed about the murder mystery that we were to attend that evening. My friend whisked me off for a quick bite and some shopping. I guess she really new that I hadn't really brought anything to wear for our night out. I got a really cute outfit, a pants set and some killer shoes. Then we went to her place to shower and change as the dinner was to start at 8:00pm. I was so excited I could hardly wait!

When we arrived, we were ushered into a room, and seated at a table where we were served some Hors D'oeuvres and a drink. Immediately, our host began to speak. Next thing you know there were actors and actresses mixed in with the regular guests. The whole night was such a rip. We were there for at least 4 hours and what fun it was trying to follow all the clues to the right conclusion. Oh yes, in between we did have a great dinner, but I was so rapped up in the mystery that I barely remember it. In any case, my friend and I were not the ones who solve the mystery, but several other people thought they had it all figured out from the beginning.

At nights end, we were really glad that we went. If you ever have a chance to attend a murder mystery party or one of the many murder mystery corporate events that they host, be sure to do it. I know you will be glad you did.

obama

As a political science major, I am closely following the election that is coming up. I am constantly checking polls online and reading articles about each candidate. I feel that it is my duty to be a well informed voter so I make the best decision come voting time. To make my role as a voter even more important I attend a very politely driven school. University of Wisconsin Madison is always right on top of their political game. We are very liberal and as embarrassing as it sounds now, even the vice president himself, Richard Cheney attended the good old UW. To not take voting serious would be the eighth deadliest sin on this campus. At the start of the fall semester I was offered a internship in Las Vegas with candidate Hillary Clinton. As a political science major it was a great opportunity. There was only one problem, I was not planning on voting for Hillary Clinton. There was no doubt that I was Democratic but I was strongly hoping that Barack Obama was going to take the democratic ticket. To me interning for an unlikely president was a waste of my time, as well as my dignity. Obama recently visited the University to talk about his plans and I was moved by his charisma and honesty. Being from Illinois Barack Obama and I share a common ground. I have followed his political career for awhile and I even plan on helping the with the Illinois Barack Obama campaign over Christmas break. In Florida Obama is predicted to receive the electoral college votes, and I am not surprised. In the huge state of New York Obama is leading the polls and in California Obama is ahead in the polls in a land slide. I am part of the on campus club UW students for Barack Obama, and I continued my loyal support by joining http://www.barackobamaismyhomeboy.com I am able to stay updated with all of the breaking election news. I was even able to buy a Obama shirt to wear around campus recruiting other students to join the site and vote for Obama. The Barack Obama Ohio campaign is also staying very strong. I have being doing lots of campaign research and have not heard much about the Florida Obama campaign, but oddly enough in Texas Obama is leading the way in a normally very Republican state. I think I am going to go back online and buy another Barack Obama T-shirt to wear to my election and voting behavior class; it might stir up a good political debate.

replacement window

Posted by Stacy on Tuesday, April 01, 2008 1:18 PM

If you are interested in selling your home and making a good profit in today's difficult selling market, then you may just consider purchasing replacement windows. Replacement windows and vinyl replacement windows are the best way to put your homes best foot forward, and give you an edge over the other homes on the market. There are multiple ways this move can increase the selling value of your home.

One important reason is just the look. There is nothing better for someone buying a new home then to approach it looking at bright, clean, sparkling windows. This creates an overall impression that the property is worth more. With old windows, even when they have been well cleaned, they may still give an old handy man special look to a beautifully cared for home. Remember, people purchase homes based on how they look, so it is really important for a person looking to see your home in the best light.

Another need for new windows is the shape. The changing the shape of your windows may give it a new more modern appearance, even if your home is older. Especially, windows with rounded tops or adding a bay window can significantly change the look of your home. It may create a feeling that your home is newer and/or higher valued than what a buyer would have otherwise have thought reasonable. Adding etchings or frostings to certain panes of glass will also create a more elegant look.

A third reason for replacing your windows is efficiency. New windows will tend to increase your homes energy efficiency which with rising costs of fuel, would definitely be more attractive to a perspective buyer. Many older homes have only single pane windows. Most new windows are double pane. Also, having new windows installed will be a great way to fill in any gapping that has occurred in the old windows over time. Everyone is looking for excellent energy saving homes in today's market.

The housing market the way it is today, it is difficult to sell and to make any money on your home. Buying some vinyl replacement windows might just be the answer for you. It will make your home look newer, increase energy efficiency, and give your home that new, sparkly appearance that only new windows can create. Consider replacing your windows, it will be a small investment that will payoff big when you sell your home for a larger profit.
